RV highway-tripper shares journey tips for Black families

Kay Apkan received a bad feeling from the RV park her loved ones pulled into in Galveston, Texas.

Having traveled across the country complete time since 2020, the Apkans were utilized to being the only Black people in some locations, but this time felt diverse.

“It felt very scary,” she said, recalling the “amusing stares” they received as Accomplice flags flew from RVs and golfing carts nearby. 

She concerned about her son Aiden, who likes to go exploring on his bike.

“In a place like that … what if he rides somewhere and any individual looked at him and thinks that he claimed some thing or did a little something, then decided to choose matters into their possess arms?” Apkan said, fearing “an Emmett Till situation.”
