New seafood, steak, cocktail spot by Kansas City’s Plaza

Ocean Prime, a full-service modern American restaurant specializing in seafood and steaks, is opening on a hill overlooking the Country Club Plaza — just in time for Valentine’s Day weekend.

For lunch, look for such items as chilled whole Maine lobster, lobster bisque, prime steak tartare, blackened salmon salad, Maryland crab melt, poke bowls and an 8-ounce filet mignon.

The dinner menu includes such entrees as Gerber Farms chicken, Colorado lamb, blackened striped bass, twin lobster tails and prime steaks.

The spacious 8,500-square-foot restaurant has three private dining rooms and a peninsula bar. Jake Proffit, who grew up in the Kansas City area and is now based in Colorado, did some custom artwork. His sculpture, KC Realized, is in the center of the dining area and is described as a visual depiction of Kansas City’s geological evolution. He also did three paintings for the restaurant.
